1. What is collected

Nothing.

There are no analytics, no telemetry, no crash reporting, no advertising identifiers, no accounts, and no servers operated by us. No data of any kind is sent to the developer or to any third party.

2. What is stored

Your settings, and only your settings: which site connectors you have enabled, your page size, and display preferences such as whether to show full article text.

These are stored using Chrome's storage.sync API, which keeps them in your own browser and syncs them across devices where you are signed in to Chrome. They are held in your Google account, not by us. We cannot read them.

A copy of the same settings is mirrored into your browser's local storage. This is a technical necessity: the extension has to decide whether to alter a page before that page starts drawing, and reading Chrome's settings storage is too slow to do that in time.

3. What the extension reads

When you visit a site you have enabled, the extension reads that site's public content so it can display it in the parody interface. That is the whole point of the extension.

Specifically:

  • Reddit.Reddit's public JSON, read from the page itself. Because this is a same-origin read, your own Reddit session applies, exactly as it would if you loaded the page normally. The extension never sees, stores, or transmits your credentials.
  • Hacker News. The public Hacker News API, read with credentials omitted.
  • BBC News, The Guardian, The Verge. Each publisher's public RSS or Atom feed, and, when you open an article and have full article text enabled, that article's public page. All read with credentials omitted, so only the public version of a page is ever fetched.

All of this is read, displayed to you, and discarded. It is cached in memory for a few minutes so the extension is not a rude client to those sites. It is never written to disk, never sent anywhere, and never shared.

The extension makes no other network requests. Its font is bundled inside the package rather than loaded from a font service, so browsing with it does not tell any third party what you are reading.

4. Site permissions

Reddit and Hacker News are granted when you install, because they are what the extension is for.

The three news publishers are optional and off by default. Each is requested only when you switch that connector on, covers that publisher only, and is released back to Chrome when you switch the connector off. You can review and revoke all of them at any time from chrome://extensions.

5. Children

The extension is not directed at children and collects nothing from anyone.

6. Removing your data

Uninstalling the extension removes its stored settings. To clear them without uninstalling, use the reset option in the extension's settings page.
